2026 Daiwa BG SW Size Guide: 5000 vs 6000 vs 8000 and Larger
The 2026 Daiwa BG SW lineup covers everything from heavy inshore and surf fishing to serious offshore work. The biggest differences between sizes are weight, line capacity, retrieve speed and maximum drag, so choosing the right size depends more on how you fish than simply buying the largest reel available.
This guide compares the U.S.-market 2026 BG SW sizes from 5000 through 20000 so you can quickly see where each model fits.
2026 Daiwa BG SW Size Comparison
| Model | Gear Ratio | Line/Crank | Weight | Max Drag | J-Braid Capacity |

| BGSW5000-H | 5.7:1 | 37.8 in | 14.8 oz | 26.4 lb | 20/330, 30/230 |
| BGSW6000-H | 5.7:1 | 39.9 in | 16.0 oz | 26.4 lb | 30/330, 40/240 |
| BGSW8000-H | 5.7:1 | 44.8 in | 24.0 oz | 33.1 lb | 40/330, 50/280 |
| BGSW10000-H | 5.7:1 | 47.6 in | 24.3 oz | 33.1 lb | 50/330, 65/280 |
| BGSW14000-H | 5.7:1 | 48.3 in | 24.5 oz | 33.1 lb | 65/330, 80/220 |
| BGSW18000 | 5.3:1 | 50.7 in | 33.0 oz | 44.1 lb | 80/330, 100/260 |
| BGSW20000 | 5.3:1 | 54.0 in | 34.0 oz | 44.1 lb | 100/330, 120/240 |
All seven sizes use a 5BB + 1RB bearing configuration. The 5000-H through 14000-H use a 5.7:1 gear ratio, while the 18000 and 20000 step down to 5.3:1 and increase maximum drag to 44.1 lb.
What Changed With the 2026 BG SW?
Daiwa redesigned the BG SW around its POWERDRIVE DESIGN platform. The new generation uses a gasket-sealed aluminum frame and body cover, oversized POWER DIGIGEAR, a reinforced POWERDRIVE ROTOR, ATD TOUGH carbon drag and a gasket-lined braid-ready spool. A machined aluminum screw-in handle and soft-touch egg-shaped knob round out the heavy-duty saltwater setup.
The result is a lineup designed to stay rigid under load while offering stronger cranking power and smoother sustained drag pressure than the previous BG SW platform.
BG SW 5000-H
The 5000-H is the lightest BG SW in the lineup at 14.8 oz. It holds 20 lb J-Braid up to 330 yd or 30 lb up to 230 yd and delivers 26.4 lb of maximum drag.
This size makes sense for anglers who want BG SW construction without carrying the weight of the larger frames. It is a strong fit for heavier inshore spinning, surf casting, striped bass, bluefish, false albacore and similar applications where casting comfort still matters.
BG SW 6000-H
The 2026 Daiwa BG SW 6000-H moves up to 30 lb J-Braid capacity of 330 yd while weighing 16 oz. It keeps the same 26.4 lb maximum drag and 5.7:1 gearing as the 5000-H but retrieves 39.9 inches of line per crank.
The 6000 is a strong middle ground for anglers fishing heavier striped bass setups, surf, inlets, cobia, tarpon, jigging and live bait. It gives you noticeably more capacity than the 5000 without the large jump in weight that comes with the 8000.
BG SW 8000-H
The 2026 Daiwa BG SW 8000-H is where the lineup takes a major step upward. Weight increases to 24 oz, maximum drag rises to 33.1 lb and braid capacity reaches 40 lb / 330 yd or 50 lb / 280 yd.
This size is better suited to heavier surf, inlet, jigging, live-bait and boat applications where added capacity and drag matter more than keeping the reel lightweight. It is a strong choice for large striped bass, cobia, tarpon, mahi and other hard-pulling saltwater fish.
BG SW 10000-H
The 10000-H stays close to the 8000 in physical weight at 24.3 oz but increases capacity to 50 lb J-Braid / 330 yd or 65 lb / 280 yd. It also retrieves 47.6 inches per crank.
This model makes sense when the 8000 has the right general frame size but you want more braid capacity and slightly faster line pickup for heavier offshore casting, jigging or bait applications.
BG SW 14000-H
The 14000-H weighs 24.5 oz and still produces 33.1 lb of maximum drag, but capacity climbs to 65 lb J-Braid / 330 yd or 80 lb / 220 yd. Line pickup is 48.3 inches per crank.
It fits anglers who need substantial braid capacity for heavy offshore work while staying within the same general weight class as the 8000 and 10000.
BG SW 18000
The 18000 moves into the true heavy-offshore end of the lineup. It weighs 33 oz, uses a 5.3:1 gear ratio and produces 44.1 lb of maximum drag. Capacity reaches 80 lb J-Braid / 330 yd or 100 lb / 260 yd.
This is a much more specialized reel than the smaller models and is intended for anglers who need heavy line, substantial drag and large capacity for big-game saltwater fishing.
BG SW 20000
The 20000 is the largest U.S.-market BG SW size in the 2026 lineup. It weighs 34 oz, retrieves 54 inches per crank and holds 100 lb J-Braid / 330 yd or 120 lb / 240 yd while delivering 44.1 lb of maximum drag.
This is the choice for the heaviest applications in the lineup, where maximum capacity and big-game capability matter more than overall reel weight.
6000 vs 8000: Which One Should You Choose?
For many Northeast saltwater anglers, the most practical decision will be between the 6000-H and 8000-H.
- Choose the 6000-H if you value lower weight, repeated casting comfort and 30-40 lb braid capacity.
- Choose the 8000-H if you need 40-50 lb braid, additional line capacity and the jump from 26.4 lb to 33.1 lb of maximum drag.
The weight difference is significant: 16 oz for the 6000 versus 24 oz for the 8000. If you are casting plugs or jigs all day, that difference matters. If you are fighting fish around current, structure or open water where capacity and pressure matter more, the 8000 earns its extra weight.
Quick Size Recommendations
- 5000-H: heavier inshore, surf, striped bass, bluefish and casting-focused setups
- 6000-H: heavy inshore, surf, inlet, cobia, tarpon, jigging and live bait
- 8000-H: heavy surf, inlet, boat, larger striped bass, cobia, tarpon and mahi
- 10000-H: heavier offshore casting, jigging and increased braid capacity
- 14000-H: heavy offshore applications requiring substantially more line capacity
- 18000: big-game saltwater and heavy offshore use
- 20000: maximum-capacity, heavy big-game applications
